It feels like just yesterday I took Diana and Beto’s engagement photos at Cal Tech. And now it is a month away before the big day! To celebrate Diana, her bridesmaids threw a bridal shower and transformed the backyard into a beautiful, tented landscape filled with colors of pink and white. The hard work was evident from the beautiful centerpieces, the favors, the handwritten, chalk platter displays for the food, the spread itself – fruit skewers and cute pineapple fruit bowls, and the dessert candy bar. There were drinks galore – sangria, horchata, and Diana’s mom even made tamarind martinis – that went along with the catered taco stand, Tacos Originales De Jalisco. Everything was absolutely delicious and guests at the bridal shower really enjoyed the decor, food, and the funny games that the bridesmaids organized.
It was fun to hang out and get to know some of the people who I will see at the wedding. Thank you for inviting me and I cannot wait to celebrate at the end of May and photograph what is going to be a gorgeous wedding!
I communicated via email with Marisa for a couple weeks regarding a family portrait session. Marisa and her husband make a yearly trip down from Victoria to California to visit family, but in 2012 they postponed their trip because they had a beautiful daughter, Louisa! They decided to wait until she was a bit older to make the trip down and to celebrate the occasion, Marisa wanted some family portraits taken. I was thrilled to be a part of it and to help capture some of Louisa’s first memories with her grandparents and her great-grandmother. I could see the unconditional love and joy from both Louisa’s grandparents and great-grandmother. (I’ve been told that parents feel proud to hold their children, but have even more pride when holding their grandchildren!) It was great to see the love, smiles, and laughter on what turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day after a day of rain and clouds.
Thank you for allowing me to take part in photographing Louisa’s very first trip down to Southern California! Louisa was a trooper and I was so impressed by how well she could sit up with just the support of the Boppy pillow. I hope she can one day look back at these photos and see how she is constantly surrounded by love – and also look back to see her first experience and fascination with grass!
I love the following expressions from Louisa!
I am so happy to start 2013 with a sweet gesture. Aileen, my former AP student, contacted me and asked me to take photos of her sister, Elise. Aileen and her brother wanted to give Elise a gift to not only celebrate her sister’s nine year anniversary (Isn’t that amazing?) with her boyfriend, Truong, but also a chance to take photos of her beautiful pregnancy belly! I was absolutely thrilled to be able to help both of them out and even more excited to partake in another maternity session. Aileen’s gesture truly shows what a loving sister and person she is, but I already knew that after having her as a student for a year. So I was not surprised when I met Elise and she was equally as kind and sweet as Aileen! I can definitely see how they are sisters and am glad that this gave me the opportunity to communicate with a former student, but also work with such a great couple. (Plus I can only guess that their brother is equally as awesome!)
Elise and Truong are such down to earth people and so easy-going. In between talks of the pregnancy thus far, discussion of the upcoming baby shower, and the process of finding a house before Elise’s due date, I could see the excitement and anticipation for the arrival of baby Noah, who is due to make his appearance at the end of March. It was wonderful to hear how the two of them met and how Elise and Truong are now going to add more memories to their journey together. As first time parents, nerves of labor and delivery are there, but Elise had a smile throughout the morning and I can tell that she cannot wait to hold her baby boy in her arms!
The love and care that Truong showed in helping Elise down the grassy mounds at the park and helping her get up are the gestures I can anticipate when Noah needs an extra hand when learning to walk, support to learn his ABCs, or even a clean diaper. Elise and Truong, it was wonderful to meet the two of you! You two are going to be amazing parents. Congratulations again and I look forward to meeting Noah and taking his first photos!
